The slip ring is a device – rod or circular circuit board that is attached to the rotating engine. Notches on the rod allow electronic fingers to transmit data from the rotating device to a fixed receiver – a similar transmission set up is used if the attached device is a circuit board. The slip ring allows for the manufacturer to spin the motor up and make sure it is in balance. However the coolant ( lubrincant and carrier solvent) can also give off a harmonic signature, or “noise”, which interferes with the determination of the balance of the engine.
